Modrana

Celebrating the Foremothers of my ancestral lines- particularly those whose ancestry has been striped and stolen from them.

Date for the holiday was chosen based on the Katherina Name-Day in the Ukrainian Orthodox tradition, in recognition of my Ukrainian Ashkenazi Jewish namesake ancestors in particular; the date was chosen in this way due to the family lore that they were "Russian Catholic" after immigrating to America.

A ritual is performed on Foremothers day so that the names of the female downline may be recited and called upon, and the dead may be fed with traditional Cakes and Wine. This ritual is intended to symbolically "give life" to their memory so they will not be forgotten as they were before.
