Lesser Holiday
World Porridge Day (October 10th)

The first World Porridge Day was held in 2009 and was organized to raise funds for Mary's Meals- a charity based in Argyll, Scotland, who helps aid starving children in developing countries- and included gatherings in the United States, France, Malawi, Bosnia, and Sweden.

Inspirations

Porridge is a food commonly eaten as a breakfast cereal dish, made by heating ground, crushed, or chopped starchy plants (typically a type of grain) in either milk or water. Typically this is then combined with flavorings such as sugar, honey, dried fruit, or syrup to make a sweet cereal- or it can be mixed with spices, meat, nuts, or vegetables to make a savory version; Gruel is a thinner version of porridge.
