The Noahide Laws

1. Do not profane HaShem’s Oneness.

Acknowledge that there is at least one Creator, and that this unknowable oneness cares about our reality and what we are doing, and desires that we take care of Its world. Its name to us is HaShem, and it is accessible to us through prayer and deeds.
Do not worship idols above it, or in its stead, through such acts as prayer, study and meditation; nor acts reserved for other Gods in other traditions; nor other acts not specified within the holy texts for Its right worship.

2. Do not curse HaShem, nor commit blasphemy or profane its teachings.

One must always honor the name of God; no matter how angry you may be, do not take it out against your Creator- nor deny that there is one, or abandon any of the commandments it has given to you to fulfill.

3. Do not murder or engage in bloodshed.

The Human Being is made in the divine image, and thus the value of human life cannot truly be measured. Further, to destroy a single human life is to destroy the entire world, because for that person the world has ceased to exist. It follows, then, that one must preserve and sustain life- and that by sustaining a single human life, you are sustaining an entire universe. To help others live, then, is a corollary of this principle.

4. Do not eat a limb nor drink the blood of a still-living animal.

If we wish to eat meat, we must wait until the entire animal has died before removing anything for consumption. Because as HaShem’s creations, we have a duty to respect the life of all HaShem’s other creatures. And as intelligent beings, we have a duty not to cause undue pain to them.

5. Do not steal or rob, or commit other thievery.

Respect and safeguard the rights and property of others, and do not rob from them. Be honest in all our business dealings. Do not be shrewd or conniving in personal advancements. And whatever benefits received within this world, we must make sure that none of them are at the unfair expense of someone else.

6. Do not commit adultery or engage in other forms of sexual immorality.

Sexuality is the very fountain of Human life, and so nothing is arguably more holy than the sexual act. So, too, when abused, can nothing be more debasing and destructive to the Human Being and its body and psyche. Likewise, the family unit (regardless of how it is structured) is the foundation of human society- and Marriage, a reflection of the oneness of HaShem. Disloyalty in marriage, then, is an assault on that oneness. Therefore acts of incest, adultery, beastiality, rape, and similar forms of sexual immorality are forbidden. By comparison, maintaining modesty, familial unity, and sexual ethicality is holy.

7. Establish courts of law and ensure justice in the world.

With every small act of justice and righting the wrongs of society, we are restoring harmony to our world, synchronizing it with a supernal order, and acting as partners in the act of sustaining the creation of HaShem. This is why we must keep the laws established by our governments when fair and just- for the country’s stability and harmony. And where there is no order or justice to be found, we are obligated to create it ourselves in whatever manner we are able.

In addition to the 'Seven Laws of Noah', Noahides may also freely choose to abide by other Jewish commandments if they wish. But it must always be remembered that the 613 Mitzvot were given to the Jewish people only ... Noahides are Jewish-adjacent and affiliated, but they are not themselves Jewish. They are still Gentiles. Thus they are ultimately discouraged from participating in many purely Jewish elements of faith, and from participating in these Jewish specific elements of faith too deeply.

These laws- 'the Seven Laws of Noah' specifically- however, were intended for all people; they were first communicated by HaShem to Adam, then again to Noah, and confirmed to Moses for all Souls at Sinai. And that is what makes these rules universal, for all times, places and people.

Laws made by humans may change according to circumstance. But laws made by the Creator of All Souls Over All of Time remain the same for all people at all times.

A Note On The "Expanded" Noahide Laws:

There are some schools of thought which believe that the Noahide Laws are actually 7 overarching categories amounting to roughly 30 actual laws altogether. There are two main lists which have been developed stating these laws, which are the oldest derived examples — the first being by Rabbi Shmuel ben Chofni Gaon; and the second by Rabbi Menachem Azaria da Fano.

That said, no lists of the Noahide Laws outside of the base 7 are ultimately considered definitive (nor final) interpretations of the Noahide Mitzvot. As such, while I do agree that proper study and understanding of the 7 laws does lead to a robust set of Mitzvot for Noahides to abide by beyond the seeming simplicity of the base 7? This particular viewpoint regarding their complete expansion into 30- or even 70- specific laws isn't a viewpoint I personally adhere to as someone following a more Conservative (rather than Orthodox) interpretation of Noahidism. Especially as some of these expanded laws are outdated* according to modern Judaic thought, understanding, and interpretation among some movements.
