Food & Thanksgiving Prayers

Before Eating

Blessed are you, Adonai, Sovereign of the Universe by whose word all things came into being- and by whose generosity our bodies and Spirits are blessed with many kinds of sustenance.

After Eating #1

Blessed are you, Adonai, Creator of the Universe, who feeds the world through your goodness. And blessed are you, Chava and Adam, toilers of both field and wilds, through whose efforts this meal is known. Exalted are your names.

After Eating #2

Blessed is all Creation for sustenance and nourishment; from the Vine and the Tree and their Fruits, the Fruits of the Field, and the land we live on.

May we eat at one table of abundance- all beings, together as one, as an interconnected family. And let us remember and always give thanks for the wonders of Cosmos and Land alike, and those who make such abundance possible.

Thanksgiving for Food & Gathering

Blessed are you, Shekhinah, who dwells within the earth, and whose words weave all things into holy being. Blessed is the Earth, and the good land You have given us, oh Adonai- and blessed are Chava and Adam, the First Ancestors whom you set within the garden and commanded to work it. Blessed are those who have continued to turn the Earth in their stead, the seed you have created, those who have planted the seed, the rains which come in their own time and those who water the seed when the rains do not come, and those that harvested the crops- food, medicine, or other alike- to sustain us. Blessed are the animals and their keepers- and those who bring all to market. Blessed are the minds which provide the recipes- and the hands which prepare the meals and medicines. Grateful are we, Adonai, for the legacy reaching back through the ages to the First Ancestors, which has gathered us here in this moment, in gratitude.
