For the Green

I pray, Adonai, that it may be my custom to pray outdoors among all the sweet growing things to awaken me. And there, may I be alone in your presence. May I express within my prayers, everything in my heart- and may all the green growing things made as one by your hand aid their power to my prayer so that my words are made whole through their Spirit, through you.

You who are wild and unknowable: Help us to be like you — wildly disciplined, voraciously curious, exuberantly elegant, shockingly friendly, fanatically balanced, blasphemously reverent, mysteriously truthful, teasingly healing, lyrically logical, and blissfully rowdy.

Blood to blood, make kindred one - beneath the moon, beneath the sun; plant and flesh, spirit and soul. Bound in ways which make us whole.

Seed to Earth, Earth to Root, Root to Sprout, Sprout to Leaf, Leaf to Bud, Bud to Flower, Flower to Fruit, Fruit to Seed, Seed to Earth again.

I call upon the Lord and Lady; the Spirits of the Land; and the Elements that surround me. Hear me: I, [N], here and now, do pledge to you to walk the Verdant path with an open heart and mind. From this moment on, I am the Handmaiden of Nature, sworn to worth with and honor nature’s multitude.

Bless me as I walk the Verderer’s plath; bring me wisdom and peace; serenity and balance; grant me the strength to do the work required- and to bear its burdens- so I may serve you fully and with honor. And serve I shall, for I devote myself from this moment onwards; I claim my plot!

Lord and Lady; Spirits of the Earth; Elements which surround me … I ask humbly that you bless this day and support and guide me as I move along my way.
