Extemporization

To Extemporize is to improvise, or to compose or perform in an inspired manner from the heart during ritual. The idea is that you are inspired to speak from the moment, or from the place.

So, for instance, say you’re calling the Quarters. You start with your set words from your tradition. You then extemporize. And you then finish with more set words. Because then, everybody in the circle knows you’ve started and you’ve finished, because you’ve used the standard fords. They provide a nice framework in which you can speak from the heart.
