Blessing Of The Head

You will need a small glass or clay vessel with a cover that has not been used for any other purpose. Fill the vessel with good spring water. You may reinforce the power of this ceremony by reciting your favorite psalm or prayer over the water when you first fill your vessel. You may also add an essential oil to the water for its spiritual properties (Sage for wisdom, Frankincense for clarity, Myrrh for purification, and so on). And if you have a personal altar or sacred space then you may keep the vessel of water there- or you may place your covered vessel in places where it may be exposed to sunlight; always change the water weekly.

Upon arising, before speaking to anyone or beginning daily activities, bless your head with the water in the following manner: To start, place two fingers of each hand into the water. Then place the fingers in the middle of your forehead and draw them from the center, across the top, and down the back of your head to the base of your neck. Repeat the motion three times as you pray:

I bless the spirit of my head.

Redip your fingers and draw them from the center of your forehead out to each side:

I bless my spiritual vision that I may see my way clearly.

After dipping fingers again, simultaneously stroke each eye gently outward with the corresponding hand; right hand, right eye; left hand, left eye:

I bless my eyes that I may see truth.

Stroke each nostril after redipping, then the bridge of your nose from top to bottom.

I bless my breath that my life may be sustained by Spirit.

Again, after dipping, stroke each ear with your fingertips.

I bless my ears that I may hear the guidance of Spirit.

Stroke your lips from the center outward next, after redipping.

I bless my ability to speak the truth of Spirit; to affirm the Spirit, and to give thanks for its blessing and guidance.

Finally, stroke the circular outline of your face from the center of the forehead around to your chin.

I bless my unique identity as an expression of creation, and of Divinity.
