Tool Consecration

You will need a bowl with 1 tsp salt, and another one half full of warm water; Your censer and incense, plus something for lighting it; All of your ritual tools you wish to consecrate (don’t worry if you don’t have all of them yet. You don’t have to consecrate them all at once); And a clean, dry rag or towel.

Place your altar in the center of your circle space, and the water, salt, and all of your tools either alongside or under it- not on the surface of the Altar. You may wish to have one burning candle on the altar for light.

Ground yourself. Clear the space through visualization, then draw the circle and call the quarters using your fingers. Finally, call the Divinities you wish.

Now stand or sit in front of your altar and place the bowls of salt and water on the altar. Place your index and middle fingers in the water and say something like:

I bless and consecrate this water and bowl in the names of the Goddess and God and in the presence of the powers of the four elements. May it aid me in honoring my gods and working my will. Blessed be.

As you are saying this, raise earth energy through your taproot and infuse and energize the water. Repeat the same procedure with the salt, then pour the salt into the water and stir with your two fingers.

Next, place the censer and incense on the altar. Put some incense in the censer and light it. Make sure it is burning well before proceeding.

It is traditional when consecrating tools to expose them to all four elements, which are fully represented within the incense and saltwater together. So sprinkle the altar and censer lightly with the saltwater, next. Then pick up the censer safely, and fan the smoke over the altar and bowls. Now everything on the altar has been blessed by the elements.

Now pick up a tool to be consecrated- for example, your athame. Raise earth energy from your taproot again and say something like:

I bless and consecrate this athame in the names of the Goddess and God and in the presence of the powers of the four elements. May it aid me in honoring my gods and working my will. Blessed be.

Sprinkle the athame with the saltwater and hold it in the incense smoke for a moment. Then wipe the salt water off of your blade with the rag; you don’t want saltwater sitting on your athame or you’ll end up with rust or pits. You’ll also want to polish the blade later with Metal Glo or some similar product.

Repeat this procedure with your other tools, if you have any others to be consecrated at this time. When you have finished, thank the God and Goddess for attending your ritual. Dismiss the quarters and take up the circle. Then ground yourself.

Store your newly consecrated tools in a safe, special place until you need to use them for ritual or spell work.
