Household Ancestral Guardian Animation

Situate the item (most preferably an Image with a face- such as a statuette; which should be currently blindfolded) to be used as Household Guardian in the center of the Altar space during ritual setup; this should be arranged with some design and respect, and should not be plain. It should not be overly fancy either, however, since gifts and offerings will also be given to the vessel later as part of the Ritual.

When you are ready, through the usual means, Raise the Temple. Once finished, sprinkle the image with Lustral Water and anoint it with Holy Oil; place your hands upon the head of the Image, finally, and say:

Blessed Adonai, Master of the Universe … I bid you consecrate this image so that it may obtain the necessary virtues of purity through you, for the services required of it.

First pass Purification Incense over and around the image in order to purify it, then pass it through a lit Candle while praying:

Chava and Adam; exalted First Ancestors … I bid you bless this vessel so that it may serve my family for good and pure purpose.

The Image is now physically and spiritually “clean” and fit for a Spirit to inhabit. It is now time to open the vessel for inhabitation; first, amount the lips of the image with Reverence Oil:

You are raised in the name of the first Birther, Tender, and Butcher of All, and called to aid me. Awaken!

Ring the Bell once. Then ritually “feed” the vessel with an offering of food (which should be Bread and Salt) and drink (which should be water, beer, or wine); next the eyes are anointed through the blindfold with the Oil:

You are raised in the name of the first Tiller, sower, and Harvester of All, and called to aid me. Awaken!

Ring the bell once again. Then remove the blindfold. Anoint the eyes with the Oil once more- this time including the middle eye; next anoint the Crown of the head finally:

You are raised in the name of the Ancestors of the deep, damp Earth- all those who came before, and all those who will come after; and designed to aid me. Awaken!

Ring the bell once a final time. A wreath of flowers or ribbons should be thoughtfully and beautifully arranged around the image at this point. Once complete, breathe onto the mouth of the image. Afterwards:

I call you forth. Rise up for me, Spirit! It is It, your Rosey-Armed descendant. Step forth, for this vessel has been opened unto you, just as you opened the doorway unto me.

Take heart that I welcome your presence here! For this light I give; this breath I give; this bread and salt I give; my willing hand I give- all with approval and favor, I give to you.

Name thyself protector of my Husband and I, in love and light, and I shall be in gratitude that you will aid my family well and kindly, and bless them for your stay!

The vessel should be considered inhabited at this point. Sit and meditate with it for a moment to see if you receive a name. If you do, take your Sickle and carve it into the bottom of the Image (if possible; if not feel free to use a marker or pen, or some other method. Just be sure to note the name of the Spirit of the Vessel somehow, somewhere).

Veil the Image, then, if you need to move it to its final home. If not, and it’s in its final home, leave it uncovered. Then Raze the Circle using the usual method.
