Spiritual Tea Ceremony

Having set up the Altar as normal according to the tradition, add the following:

  • Clear Glass Tea Pot or French Press (Center Pentacle)
  • Mortar and Pestle (Right of Center)
  • Plant Materia in Bowl (Left of Center)
  • Tea Cup and Saucer (Center Front)

Then, after having Raised the Temple, sit before the Altar in a comfortable position; raise your arms back to the neutral position, and continue with the Statement Prayer:

Blessed are you, Adonai, Master of the Universe who, on the third day, created the Earth and the Seed and has made such beautiful things through them.

Move the Right hand to point two fingers downward with the back of the hand showing, while the Left hand is moved to point two fingers upwards with the palm facing outwards, and continue:

Blessed are you, Adam, Tender of the Garden and Tiller of the Soil.

Switch the positions of the Right and Left hands, and continue.

Blessed are you, Chava, Mother of All Things and Keeper of the Mysteries.

Move both hands back into the neutral position, and finish the Prayer:

Grant unto me the wisdom and knowledge of your Offspring and Creation. Amein.

Place some of the Materia into the Mortar and Pestle and grind it to a desired consistency. Repeat multiple times with small additional batches of Materia- discarding each batch into the Tea Pot or French Press, until the Materia is at various consistencies. Keep the final batch at whole consistency; include fresh Materia if possible.

Blessed are you, Adonai, Creator of the Universe, who created such fragrant [Grasses] / [Herbs] / [Spices] / [Flowers] / [Trees] / [Fruit].

Use boiling water to fill the Tea Pot or French Press. Allow the Materia to steep for no less than 5 minutes; as it steeps, inhale the aroma and concentrate on the scent while saying the next Prayer:

Praise be to you, oh blessed [Grass] / [Herb] / [Spice] / [Flower] / [Tree] / [Fruit], for Adonai has created you for a purpose, and with knowledge … I am here, now, holding this space and this time for your Spirit. May I hear you.

When the brew is complete, fill your cup and taste the Tea for the first time; savor it deeply as you do. Continue drinking while concentrating on the Tea, and the plant Spirit surrounding you- especially as its essence courses through your veins.

Consider the plant and what you know of it at this time. Think about where it is from. What it looks like. Its cultivation. Its magical properties- and even its medicinal ones. Any culinary uses it has. Its history. The cultures who use it; anything you know about this plant at all, as it comes to you.

Whatever the effects of the Tea, allow them to happen and progress naturally; if it drives you to dance, or sing, or write, hum, sway, or perform any other action, allow yourself to do so. Pay attention to the thoughts that cross your mind, as well. Whatever comes to you during this time should be written down or otherwise recorded in some way, and the gnosis preserved in order to be reflected on later.

The point is ultimately to prepare Tea in a spiritualistic capacity which ritualizes every action of the production, and turns it into a ceremony; to allow the practitioner to put every ounce of their own energy, concentration, and presence into the act in order to truly connect with the Plant Spirit and its energies on the most foundational and fundamental level, and bring forth Verdant Gnosis from this deep communion.

When you feel the ritual is complete, or the Tea is gone, close the ritual by sitting in the standard neutral position, and say the Blessed Closing:

Be blessed, oh [Verdant] / [Rustic] Spirit. Be blessed, Chava and Adam, first Ancestors. Be Blessed Adonai, Master of the Universe. Baruch HaShem.

Raze the Temple in the traditional manner.
