"Little Spirit" Types

Land Spirits

Land Spirits are nature Spirits white are specific to a particular geographical feature or location. They may be as small as a single Spring (in which case, they may be "embodied")- or as large as the entire Mississippi River (in which case they may not be embodied, and may be more of a "spiritual essense"). Regardless, these are stable, Earthly Spirits that are tied to an area, and who are not transient in nature.

Plant Spirits

Often confused for Land Spirits, Plant Spirits are another nature Spirit. However, they are unique to specific plant families (such as Sage, or Mint). Individual plants may also have their own individual Spirits as well, which may have personalities unique to that individual plant alone. These personalities are often lesser deviations from the overarching Spirit of the plant family, however, and so working with the overarching family through the individual is common practice. Regardless, the Spirit is inherent to the type of plant, and they ultimately have no connection to any place in particular. Only that family or species.

Animal Spirits

Long valued as spiritual guides across many cultures, animal Spirits are typically transient spirits, and may not be beholden to a specific place. As a result, they are most commonly worked with using an anchor object such as the residual energy remaining within bones from their body in life, leftover from their passing-over. Like plant Spirits, animal Spirits are dual featured. You can work with the overarching spirit of the "Domestic Cat" family, or with the particular Spirit which inhabited the Cat skull you now possess. In the case of animal Spirits, however, personalities of individuals are often much more unique, and so working with overarching spirits is less common.

House Spirits

Man-made places such as Houses also develop Spirits associated with them over time- having been ensouled by the energy of the people who have dwelled within them, and the ways in which they were used throughout time (Attached House Spirits). And like with natural places, some Spirits may also simply come to inhabit a home or other dwelling over time, in order to do things such as protect its inhabitants, or for some other such reason (Unattached House Spirits).

Little Spirits such as these are frequently forgotten, but can become powerful allies and guides if approached properly. It can also allow us to connect more deeply and meaningfully to the world around us; when we open our eyes to the multitude of spirits within the world, we begin to see how thoroughly the spiritual truly permeates every aspect of existence.
